Tribute track to Dr. King As a tribute to the great man, i've done a remix of his last speech for your listening pleasure.
Each year on the third Monday of January schools, federal offices, post office and banks across the United States close to celebrate America's newest national holiday. 15 Years after Dr King's death President Ronald Reagan signed a bill making the third Monday of January a national holiday celebrating the birth and life of Dr Marting Luther King, Jnr.
Quotes: Now, I say to you today my friends, even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: - 'We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal. Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity. Our scientific power has outrun our spiritual power. We have guided missiles and misguided men. The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy. I submit to you that if a man hasn't discovered something he will die for, he isn't fit to live. And I've looked over, and I've seen the promised land. I may not get there with you, but I want you to know tonight that we as a people will get to the promised land. So I'm happy tonight. I'm not worried about anything. I'm not fearing any man. Many opposed the idea of a holiday for Dr King. America had only honored two individuals with national holidays - George Washington and Christopher Columbus. One barrier to the confirmation was the Senator from Georgia who had denounced Dr. King as a communist. Others feared the King holiday was meant as a way to make up to African-Americans for the days of slavery. Some feared the cost of the holiday, with the extra overtime paid to federal workers who had to work on the holiday as well as the millions to those federal employees who were paid for the day. Dr King's life and his contributions to the fight for freedom and equality are vast. The first national holiday took place January 20, 1986. This year the King holiday will be celebrated on Monday January 17th 2005. Remember to Celebrate this great man. Reflect and act!
