This is what we bump. “Strong Arm Steady!”, “Liquid crew!” Phil Da Agony (Now Phil The Agony) proclaims as his vocals stagger towards the mic backed by DJ Revolution, Hi-Tech, Joey Chavez, E-Swift and more on his Solo effort ‘The Aromatic Album’. Ever since I heard this Drunken’ idiot-savant slur verses on Alcoholic classic albums like Liquidation, I’ve been anticipating a solo effort from PTA. “Agony! I just had to throw the name in”. The familiar self absorbed cry to battle reminds listeners of his many eclipsing cameos and overshadowing grasp of the English language. All over Stones Throw releases in the latter half of his career you can witness Phil’s contribution to lacing tracks on Wild Child, Dilated Peoples, Tash, Defari, Declaim, as well as Alcoholic albums of course. As a prelude to his Album “Aromatic”, Phil dropped ‘Watch Out’ and ‘Blunted’, 12 inches released on Good Vibe Records, and ‘Back Up’, released by Fat Lace Music. Mature, mindful production, accompanied by surprise lacings by Raekwon, Planet Asia, Talib Kweli, and Xzibit validate Phil The Agony’s high regard in the underground, and foreshadow a well received Strong Arm Steady (PTA, Krondon, and Mitchy Slick) album. Released late 2004 this project needs light shed upon it so let there be no sleepin’… Phil The Agony, ‘The Aromatic Album’.
